Advanced Linkage Course Pavia Monday through Friday October 23 -27, 2000 An advanced linkage course will be held at the Department of Scienze Sanitarie Applicate e Psicocomportamentali of Pavia University, Italy from Monday through Friday, October 23 - 27, 2000. TOPICS include: Ø Basic overview of genetic epidemiology and evolutionary genetics Ø Linkage analysis of marker versus marker, and deterministic genotype-phenotype relationships with ILINK Ø Linkage disequilibrium between markers, and case-control studies with ILINK Ø Joint linkage and linkage disequilibrium analysis between markers, and between markers and traits with model-based or pseudomarker model-free methods with ILINK Ø Use of shell scripts and utility programs to simplify the practical application of these methods (ANALYZE, PSEUDOMARKER, DOWNFREQ, etc.) The instructors for the course is: Joseph D. Terwilliger , Dept of Psychiatry and Columbia Genome Center, Columbia University, New York; Dept of NeuroScience, New York State Psychiatric Institute, New York. The course will take place in the teaching room of Dipartimento di Scienze Sanitarie Applicate e Psicocomportamentali dell'Università di Pavia, which is equipped with desktop PCs. The number of participants is limited to 28. It will include theory as well as practical exercises. The exercises will be carried out using a variety of computer programs. The fee for the 5-day-course is 1,200,000 Italian Lira for students and researchers at an academic institution, and 1,600,000 Italian Lira for individuals from private companies. This fee covers tuition and course related expenses (handouts, diskettes, etc.) but not room, board or meals. Some places for accommodation by a University College will be available. Applicants who are not experienced with the LINKAGE programs should obtain a copy of "Handbook for Human Genetic Linkage," (Terwilliger and Ott, Johns Hopkins Univ. Press) and review the sections on file format and basic linkage analysis before the course. Application deadline: June 30, 2000.
