Faculty Opportunity in Functional MRI*2/16/00
Hartford Hospital and the University of CT Health Center

Hartford Hospital and the University of Connecticut School of Medicine seek a
neuroscientist to fill a position in the functional MRI neuroscience
program. The position is supported by neuroscience research funds held by
the departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry at Hartford
Hospital and reports to the chiefs of these three departments. It is
intended that this position will bridge the rich Hartford Hospital patient-
base (including the Institute of Living) that includes head injury,
neurodegenerative disorders and psychiatric disorders with the fMRI
capacities of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. We seek a
neuroscientist with special expertise in cognitive fMRI to join a University
of Connecticut School of Medicine based research team consisting of a
neurologist (Dr. Randall Benson), a physicist (Dr. Song Lai) and a
neuroscientist (Dr. Vince Clark). As a fourth member of that team, the
candidate will report to the University's fMRI Steering Committee while
representing the needs of the Hartford Hospital Neuroscience group with
regard to investigations involving fMRI. The functional MRI program at
UConn is fully operational and is supported by excellent infrastructure and
freely available scanning time. Qualifications to support a faculty
appointment at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in one of the
sponsoring departments is required.

Specific job duties include:

1. Development, implementation and testing of paradigms for eliciting
relevant fMRI data from our patient population. The candidate will work
collaboratively with clinical scientists in each of the departments to
advance the Hartford Hospital neuroscience research agenda.

2. Coordination and facilitation of all research efforts involving fMRI
at Hartford Hospital.

3. Development of the candidates own specific research protocols.

Special Requirements: The candidate must have an appropriate graduate
degree (e.g., neuropsychologist) with expertise in the principles of fMRI
(post doctoral training preferred). Experience in the development of
cognitive activation procedures required.
