Faculty Position available Arizona State University The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of Civil Engineering Materials/ Pavement Systems. One major goal of this appointment will be to obtain a faculty member who will continue the advancement of the newly advanced pavement material characterization lab at ASU to become a regional and national center of excellence. This lab is currently being used in the NCHRP SuperPave Models and 2002 Design Guide projects being conducted through the Department. We are seeking a faculty member who has the potential to provide a significant contribution in the pavement/materials program of the Department through research, teaching and service. Duties include development of funded research activity including graduate student supervision, graduate and undergraduate teaching, and College, University and professional community service, especially with the Arizona Department of Transportation. At the time of Appointment, the candidate must have an earned doctorate in Civil Engineering. The candidate must demonstrate experience, appropriate to rank, to teach courses related to Civil Engineering materials and pavement systems. It is desirable that the candidate have experience in one or more of the following: dynamic materials testing; mechanistic evaluation of pavement systems and the use of innovative construction and Geomaterials. Professional Engineering registration is desired and will be encouraged for the successful candidate. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is available for a start date of 16 August 2001 with a nine-month academic year contract. ASU enrolls approximately 47,000 students and is located in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Department currently has 17 full-time faculty, 350 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students. The Department offers B.S.; M.S. and PhD degrees in all areas of Civil Engineering. The undergraduate program is fully accredited by ABET. The Civil and Environmental Engineering department has a commitment to rapidly expand its research activities and graduate programs.
