Hum! A good idea from Tim Reynolds but perhaps the thought of a centre where scientists get hands-on experience with the public is a little worrying. Still, my idea for a “exhibit” would be based on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”. Scientists would have to answer questions about their knowledge of the public. Questions like “What percentage of the public think that research into genetically modified food is beneficial?” Of course, they will be able to phone a friendly social scientist or ask the audience. If they get the answers correct, they get their grant from the Research Councils. A cut would go to the hands-on centre, so it would be self-funding. Fancy a partnership Tim?
