Manager, Science in Society Programme

Salary range: up to £31000 plus benefits


The Royal Society is the independent scientific academy of the UK, dedicated
to promoting excellence in science. 

The Royal Society is establishing an exciting new programme to develop its
link with society and wishes to appoint an individual with imagination and
energy to manage this programme. Important elements will be a national forum
on a topical scientific issue, related regional events, parliamentary
fellowships, the implementation of consultative processes and the postholder
will undertake the project management of these and related activities.

Candidates should have a degree or equivalent, a thorough understanding and
appreciation of the issues involving interaction between scientists and the
public and at least 3 years experience of managing projects in this area.
S/he should have excellent communication, interpersonal and teamworking
skills.

Manager, COPUS

Salary range: up to £31000 plus benefits



COPUS is the committee responsible for developing science/public
partnerships. It has undergone a detailed review and is moving to become an
inclusive organisation which fosters dialogue and mutual understanding
between scientists and the public. The Royal Society is the independent
scientific academy of the UK, dedicated to promoting excellence in science.
The Society administers the COPUS programme and wishes to appoint a full
time manager who will play an important part in helping COPUS develop its
expanded role.

The postholder will work closely with the Chairman and the Executive
Committee to manage the programme of discussion fora, working groups,
grants, publications and science book prizes and will provide the
secretariat. S/he will also develop links with a wide range of organisations
active in the science communication field.

Candidates should be educated to degree level or equivalent, have a deep
knowledge and understanding of the science communication area and at least 3
years experience of managing teams working in this field. S/he will also
have excellent interpersonal, communication and teamworking skills.
