A delegation from CAST, the China Association for Science and Technology, is
visiting the UK for a few days at the end of June. CAST is a vast
organisation, which has no direct parallel in the UK. Its role embraces
that played by the British Association for the Advancement of Science and
some of the functions of the Royal Society. In addition it acts as an
umbrella body for scientific societies and for scientific centres and
museums in China.

The leader of the delegation, Professor Yutai Zhang, who is the head of
CAST, will be talking about public understanding of science in China at 12
noon on 27 June in Room 311 Mechanical Engineering Building, Imperial
College.

Professor Zhang will talk about the role and responsibilities of CAST. In
particular he will focus on the utilisation of science and technology,
advice to government and communicating with the public in relation to
disaster alleviation and prevention.

The talk and discussion will last no more than an hour and will be followed
by drinks and sandwiches.

The event has been timed so as to be convenient for those attending the
opening of the Science Museum Wellcome Wing in the afternoon.

All are welcome but places are limited.

Please let Lucy Johnson (020 7973 3065 / [log in to unmask]) know
if you would like to attend.
