I saw them both staged at the Glasgow Citizen's Theatre in the sixties, which is probably where the tangle in my head comes from. Was there a version by an American playwright? Then there's the Deacon Brodie stuff (Robert Louis Stevenson [with who-was-it? Henley?] wrote a Deacon Brodie play, and a pretty dreadful short-story about Burke and Hare.
