   The thought never entered my mind.  I had assumed that it would be
clearly appropriate to discuss a poem which someone posts to an email list
which was set up for the specific purpose of discussing poetry, without
having first explicitly to ask, "Excuse me, Sir or Madam as the case may be,
but I wonder if you would mind too terribly much if I offered some comments
on the verses with which you have recently been so kinds as to regale us."
