While there may be many of the OAE family that feels such work is a
"significant step ...." I also urge us to listen and to view the reviews of
this general "adventure programming" work - one such 1999 review from a leisure
studies approach sees it as as a "pretence at academic respectability". maybe
it depends upon the reviewer and maybe it all depends upon the width and depth
of the knowledge of the reviewing community-zone itself. My point is that we
must also respect the many critiques of this kind of work for such critiques
are there and are quite "heavy". I do not mean here to attack the adventure
programming works but I do wish to see a considered evaluation that includes
the many disciplined reviewers that are already at work from just "outside" our
own group. Finally this is not, in any way, an attack on this new Miles and
Priest work.
