Purely anecdotally, I am ware that some organisations have issued lap-tops
along with separate plug-in keyboard and mouse (These are relatively cheap).
Thus the user can treat the lap top just like any other computer.

Good Luck

Subject: The use of laptops in the community

Hi everyone,

I work in a healthcare setting with large numbers of staff working in the
Community - District Nurse. Social Workers, Mental Health Workers, Midwives
etc. All of which carry files and forms by the mile!

A project team looked at the use of hand held computers as an alternative
in this area but found that the memory of these was not large enough for the
tasks being demanded of them. Management have since decided to use laptops
instead. We were concerned re the use of handhelds and had stipulated
varous controls. Has anyone information on trials that have been carried
out using Laptops or experiences of their use that would help in our
evaluation.

We have grave concerns as the proposed use will include keying in in the
home and in the car.

Your help really would be appreciated.

Gloria
