Peter,

There is one aspect of possible interest to both mining and familily
historians relating to membership of "Lodges". Here in New South Wales I
have come across references to holding positions in lodges e.g. Vice
President of the Loyal Cadia Lodge" but have ben unable to obtain further
information. I believe it may relate to the Manchester Unity I.O.O.F. being
a benefit rather than fraternal organisation, but the local office has been
unable to assist.. Details of membership by miners of the Freemasons and
benefit Lodges both in the U.K. and overseas would be appreciated.

Pax et bonum,

Broian French
