I came across a poem that appeared shortly after an explosion on Vancouver
Island. It was signed by Dollie Scannell. I do not know if she wrote it or
picked it up from elsewhere. I was wondering if anyone had seen it before.

"In Memoriam."

Fame awarrds a crown of valour
To the Men on land and seas,
Who defend our country's honour.
There are men more brave than these

Down in the dark and gloomy dungeons,
Dangers threatening everywhere,
Death's cold had forever over them,
Yet for self, they have no care.

Only for the sake of loved ones
Does each fearless, noble soul
Go midst many untold dangers,
Go to work amidst the coal.

Hard it is for us to fathom,
In this dark, heartbreaking hour,
Why death plucked from some home gardens
Just the best-loved favourite flower.

Mothers, wives, and orphans weeping,
Grieving for those hearts so true,
In your hour of deep affliction
Only God can comfort you.

And when Death, the ruthless reaper,
Comes to claim you for his own,
May you find your dear ones waiting
For you by the great white throne.
