In reply to Martin Potts(19.2.2000) or other interested parties a collection
exists
of photographs taken between 1969 and the present,of mines in Bixslade, the
dog-leg valley up from the Stone Works on the dam of the lower Cannop Pond.
These items along with some maps, plans and notes, made over time in Gloucester
Record Office and on site, cover the years from 1965 when the Union Mine
drifts
still operated to the present operating Freemine. The original intent was a
book or
booklet, but, like many a good intention, family and other interests got in the
way.
It does include the windlass over Bixlade No.2 and inside the entrance
of the
Land Level, now sadly blocked with wire.
         Also,visit Hopewell Colliery Museum-the underground trip is,of
course,
interesting and the enterprise is especially deserving of support.
