Hi List - I am trying to research the coal mines which operated in the Fence Houses area of Tyne & Wear (formerly Co Durham). I am looking for any information on the Morton pits, particularly on Morton West Pit where Sir Humphrey Davy carried out some of his tests when he was developing the miner's safety lamp. I am also interested in Pity Me Pit, which was in the Sedgeletch area of Fence Houses, in Hunter's Moor pit, Ellison's shaft, and Annabella pit, which were in the High Dubmire and Chilton Moor area of fence Houses. There were two Newcomen steam engines which were working at Lambton pits, does anyone have information on their location? Any information would be appreciated.
