Dear Mercer

In Japan the umbilical cord is usually clamped and cut immediately after
birth. In my college midwifery program I was taught as such. I had thought
the method was self-evident until I met a wonderful midwife and knew her
sensitive midwifery care. She clamped it after pulsating stopped.

My idea is that the more homelike the care is,the less early clamping is. So
consequently many hospitals have a early clamping routine. And in the case
of no midwife doctors clamp the cord. Of course they do it immediately!

Best wishes

Chiemi
