I was contacted on Thursday by someone called Elaine, claiming to be from a company called Sheersite in Plymouth. The UK Telephone directory contains the following entries under that name for Plymouth: SHEERSITE LTD, 19 Beaumont Hall Greenbank Av. 01752) 269886 SHEERSITE LTD FAX. (01752) 254345 although I am unable to say whether this company was the actual source of the call made to us. The subject of the call was a claim that someone else had contacted Sheersite wanting to register ourmuseum.com as a domain, and had not left a contact number with them, and they were now trying to trace the source of that call. No attempt was made to sell us a domain, but I made it clear at the very outset of the call that we would not be interested in registering a domain anyway. I am unable to say whether or not the call from Sheersite was genuine, or some sort of scam. Standard fees at the moment are £10 for 2 years for a .co.uk or a .org.uk address at the very cheapest end of the market. The offer may not be in the best interests of the museum.
