Dr Duncan Haldane, Head Librarian

The Institute of Ismaili Studies

LIBRARIAN

The Institute is looking for an experienced and well-qualified Librarian who can display initiative and flexibility.  The Institute promotes scholarship and learning in Muslim cultures and societies, encouraging an interdisciplinary approach to the materials of Islamic history and thought.  The Library supports the many programmes of various departments of the Institute and is a major resource centre for Ismaili studies with a unique collection of manuscripts, archives and audio-visual materials.

The Library has been growing rapidly over the past three years and playing an increasingly important role in Orientalist librarianship.  Ideally, applicants should have an honours degree in Islamic studies, a working knowledge of Arabic, Persian, or other relevant language, a qualification in librarianship and experience of an automated library system, preferably within an academic context.  The successful applicant will be expected to take responsibility for the general Islamic collections and reader services.

The salary will be in the range £18,000 to £20,500 with benefits.

The closing date is 20 October and interviews

are planned for 16 and 17 November.
