ASLIB Biosciences Group Meeting

Apologies for cross posting
--------------------------

***Clues to Forensic Information***

John Goodier, Information Scientist at The Forensic Science Service

	6.00pm Thursday 23rd November 2000
Novartis Foundation, 41 Portland Place, London W1

Murder, theft, computer crime, the Paddington Rail crash, Dr Shipham, Jill
Dando.

Solving crimes is process of gathering and evaluating information. The
information obtained from biological samples, items left at scenes, marks like
fingerprints and footprints, or from hidden information on computer files and
documents are dealt with by Forensic Scientists.

Come and find out about the Information Resources that are used by them in
their work. John’s talk will cover printed and internet sources, and a glimpse
of how marks and objects can give up their hidden information. It will end
with a demonstration of FORS, the FSS database of 60,000 record dating back to
1905 (with the bulk from 1962 onwards). It is the only database that covers
the full range of forensic work. In doing so it covers a wide range of
subjects and a great variety of sources.

If you would like to come along and take the opportunity to meet fellow
professionals in the friendly atmosphere, all for the low cost of £10
(including refreshments), please return the booking form before 18th November
2000 to the address below. There is likely to be a heavy demand for the limited
number of spaces so book early to avoid disappointment!
