NUCAF Retrospective Conversion - Pilot Project
Job description for temporary music cataloguer
The NUCAF Retrospective Conversion Project is concerned with acquiring data from various organisations, which is missing from the existing database at RNIB.  The objective of the project is to ensure that data is in place on local systems ready to be delivered once the new database, hosted by the joint library services of NLB/RNIB, is in place.

The following organisation requires one cataloguer for a period of 3 months, with a possible extension of 3-6 months:
National Library for the Blind (NLB)
Far Cromwell Road, Bredbury, Stockport, SK6 2SG
1.      Education and experience
Essential

• Qualified Librarian
• Knowledge of AACR2
• Knowledge of UKMARC
• Previous cataloguing experience

Desirable

• Knowledge of DDC
• Knowledge of GEAC library management system
• Previous music cataloguing experience

2.      Skills/Competencies
Essential

• Knowledge of music
• Ability to use / search databases - CD ROM's, Internet etc.
• Quality/accuracy

Desirable

• Knowledge of foreign language(s)

3.      Personal qualities

• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Capable of working to deadlines
• Sympathetic to aims of RNIB/NLB
• Common sense approach to problem solving
• Ability to fit in with organisation
