I have had several responses so let me clarify this for all: Of course I am able to delete a message without reading it - I am not a complete idiot and I resent the implication that I am. My point is that this inappropriate use debate occurs on average about once every month, involves the same people saying the same things, never gets solved and never will do. I don't see why I should take the time to set up a new filter each time for whatever new email heading seems to be sparking the debate, especially when people change the headings. If I don't, every single time I get a mail my computer interrupts what I'm doing to kindly let me know - even if it is rubbish. The list has some useful and interesting debates - a debate (I can't recall who suggested it and I have deleted the email) suggested was the supply of information librarians have a moral problem with which is something that would be interesting to discuss has been completely ignored in favour of moral outrage from both sides. Hopefully you have all got it out of your systems by now so perhaps we can get back to work?
