There are a few places left on this workshop for people who wish to
learn about how to create web pages from scratch.

Netskills Workshop:
Authoring on the World Wide Web

09:30 - 16:30 Tuesday 4th July 2000 University of Newcastle

The World Wide Web (WWW) is becoming increasingly
pervasive in society, covering all aspects of everyday life
including commerce, leisure and education. One of the
key features of the WWW is the ease with which
individuals can publish information, and the simplicity
with which sophisticated and exciting results can be
achieved in a short space of time.

This is a practical workshop for users of the World Wide Web and wish
to start creating their own Web pages.

Whether you are providing data for business, education or pleasure,
this workshop will give you the knowledge you need to make your
information available on the World Wide Web.

Workshop Content:
The workshop will comprise presentations, demonstrations and
hands-on sessions with opportunities for questions and discussion.
Participants will each receive a workbook which contains workshop
exercises, presentation slides and other relevant materials.

Topics covered will include:
 * A comprehensive beginner's guide to web authoring
 * Creation of World Wide Web pages
 * Publishing documents on a web server
 * Use of web authoring packages
 * Converting word processor documents for use on the web
 * Validation of web documents
 * Web page design and accessibility issues

By the end of the workshop participants will have:
 * written simple web pages using HTML tags
 * included graphics in their web pages
 * practised using hypertext to link to other pages
 * converted MS Word documents into HTML
 * published web pages on the Netskills web server
 * included colours and background images in their web pages
 * created web pages using tables and frames
 * had an opportunity to investigate and discuss web design and
   accessibility issues

Workshop Requirements:
Participants need no special technical skills; however basic computer
skills such as using a mouse and keyboard are essential, and experience
of using Microsoft Windows to open, save and close files and
applications would be useful. Participants are expected to have seen
the World Wide Web and used a Web browser such as Netscape or Internet
Explorer.

The cost of the workshop is £ 105 for participants from higher and
further education. Other participants should contact Netskills for the
relevant fees.
Note: Costs include lunch, morning coffee and afternoon tea.
