Dear Colleagues, Those of you in the UK Further and Higher Education sectors will know that the JISC is finalizing a national agreement with Oxford University Press for the Oxford English Dictionary Online. This agreement is going to the JISC's Content Working Group for formal endorsement on 19 April. In the meantime interested colleges and universities can get access via a free trial. "The OED will instantly become the internet's biggest, most prestige-laden reference book" The Guardian (11/3/00) "Using OED Online is simple and, unlike a paper dictionary, it can be easily accessed on a number of levels. One can, for example, look up terms by their definitions and etymologies rather than head words." The Sunday Times (12/3/00) Launched on March 14th, OED Online has already been the subject of widespread press, radio and TV coverage, and this is set to continue.
