Dear Colleagues,

Those of you in the UK Further and Higher Education sectors
will know that the JISC is finalizing a national agreement
with Oxford University Press for the Oxford English
Dictionary Online. This agreement is going to the JISC's
Content Working Group for formal endorsement on 19 April.
In the meantime interested colleges and universities can
get access via a free trial. Information about this is
appended below.

Cheers,

Alicia

"The OED will instantly become the internet's biggest, most prestige-laden
reference book" The Guardian (11/3/00)

"Using OED Online is simple and, unlike a paper dictionary, it can be easily
accessed on a number of levels. One can, for example, look up terms by
their definitions and etymologies rather than head words." The Sunday Times
(12/3/00)

Launched on March 14th, OED Online has already been the subject of
widespread press, radio and TV coverage, and this is set to continue. If
you would like to offer your library members free access to OED Online until
the end of April, simply contact Susanna Lob at Oxford University Press
(email: [log in to unmask], tel: 01865 267229; fax 01865 267811).

JISC has negotiated a special pricing deal on OED Online for UK higher
education and further education institutions, and more details can be found
