re: the current debate on lis-medical, (wouldn't it be better on lis-ill
??) We use our own numbering system for ILL requests, irrespective of
supplier.

We had a problem last year when we inadvertantly didn't carry the leading
number over when we had reached 999, (i.e. NIB4999 mmoved over to NIB4000
!!) so we started to use numbers which we had used previously. In most
cases (e.g. MA, LAMDA, this had no problems, but in the case of BLDSC it
caused difficulties when we tried to renew books using numbers that had
previousl already been used with the BL.

It would be useful if the Artemail system would auomatically reject
requests using duplicated request numbers, as it would prevent this
accidental errors.
