Attention:   GIS Crowd

I am ecstatic about a development in the computer industry I hit upon some time ago.  Now, it’s hard to evangelize things over the ‘net due to the plethora of misinformation out there. However, I offer this to the list because I believe strongly in it as the most useful piece of software to hit the computer industry (outside of database-ware mayhaps).

It’s Citrix MetaFrame and the Application Server Providing (ASP) architecture.  To summarize, it allows you to take existing COM-based apps and serve them instantly to the web via terminal sessions (Client side:  a plug-in in a browser).  There is also a Solaris version available as well for Unix apps.  But the point is, there is no special Java, JavaScript, HTML, Perl or other web programming necessary now to serve apps to the web.

But it goes beyond just this.  This is the way to re-architect your firm, by adding new hardware to the server-side (in a load-balanced server “farm”) of your house and adding terminals for clients (or lower-end PC’s).  Architected correctly this mainframe-style network is now ready for prime-time.

In any case, “Don’t just take my word for it, see for yourself.”

or it'thing to due with GIS excpet

I am writing to express interest in working with you.  My diverse background in application server development, integration and information technology should be of interest to you.

Currently contracting as a Systems Analyst with the Las Vegas Valley Water District, I am engineering first-of-their-kind GIS and Mapviewing applications with ArcInfo and MapObjects served to the web with Citrix Metaframe and NT Terminal Server.  This model represents a breakthrough in Internet Map Serving in the Application Server Provider (ASP) style.  See: http://janus.state.me.us/dep/gis/ for more details on designing and implementing this (Note: this instance is not my work, but a replicate idea).  I began my investigation into this architecture when NT Terminal Server was released (July 1998) and am amazed at its capabilities and utility within the browser via MetaFrame.

A briefing of my past projects is as follows:

*  Miami-Dade Metro - GIS Specialist providing primarily ArcInfo and AML scripting support

*  ACS Government Solutions Group and the Department of the Interior – contractor on a project involving ArcView and SDE development

*  PacifiCAD, Inc. (Spokane, WA) - Visual Basic developer with ESRI’s MapObjects and an Access database.

*  SAIC - GIS integrator on several projects involving GPS and vehicle tracking.  The technologies involved ranged from Rational Rose to Visual C++/MapObjects to ArcView and Internet Map Server.

Prior to this, my work with GIS Trans, Ltd. involved:

p  A portion of the Air Traffic Control Tower tracking application for the FAA,

p  Enhancing and debugging the traffic count tracking and reporting application for the Maryland State Highway Authority, and

p  Assisting in various other GIS projects as well as internal network administration.

These projects were developed using Powersoft’s PowerBuilder and ESRI's MapObjects with Informix databases.

My experience is both diverse and deep in GIS programming, integration, systems engineering, PC hardware, software, and network administration.

Please contact me at (tel) 702-792-5666 or (e-mail) [log in to unmask] to discuss possible opportunities with you.

Thank You,
