Jason,

What's wrong with not relying on experts !! the archaeologists have done 
well on it !!!

What reference are you making to shallow 'well' development, eg well 
points or horizontal tubes !!

I must admit to being sceptical about suggesting any geophys technique 
for early field evaluation !!! shallow or deep !!

I would be happy to help contribute, or comment on any drafts etc 
I know a hell of a lot about shallow aquifer exploitation.
