Dear GEM

This probably isn't the most discreet way to find a conference speaker, but I'm in a hurry to confirm a programme before my maternity leave, so here goes...

The conference: (working title) 'Learning about Life through Museums'
Organisation: Workers Educational Association, Museums and Galleries partnership initiative
Venue: Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester
Date: June 29th
Audience: WEA and adult education tutors, museum educators
Aims/theme: Encouraging lateral thinking about the use of museums/galleries for learning across a range of subjects 'about the whole of life', including developing life skills.
Other speakers: 2 case studies of museum/WEA projects, one about social history, the other for people with learning difficulties.  Afternoon - tours and discussions - using study collections and an exhibition about 'rites of passage' and 'endings' for inspiration.

Speaker needed: Keynote/ overview. Perhaps a specialist in museum education for social or domestic history, with knowledge of life long learning. To speak inspiringly about the ways encounters with the textures of objects bring us closer to lives of others or in the past.

If you are interested to speak (or to attend the event), or know of anyone suitable, please contact me on
