**************Apologies for cross posting*************** Contact: Julie Taylor/Emma Wright 020 7233 4200 £600,000 Fund for the Regions London, 21 July 2000 - Resource: The Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries has launched a new fund to encourage cross-sectoral work between museums, archives and libraries in the English regions. Ultimately the fund will support projects which will assist in the delivery of new or enhanced services to the public. A total of £600,000 is available over two years. Neville Mackay, Chief Executive of Resource commented: "The regional agenda is extremely important. This new fund will help encourage museums, archives and libraries to work together to help enhance services for the public. We look forward to receiving some imaginative bids." Funding will be allocated in two stages. For stage one each region will receive £25,000 to enable area museum councils, regional archive councils and regional library systems to identify priorities in their area. Proposals must: * involve all three sectors, * help develop regional archive strategies where these are not currently in place, * and show how the work is related to Resource's strategic priorities The deadline for stage one is 11 September 2000. In stage two regions will be invited to bid for the balance of the fund, £400,000. The Geographical basis for the scheme is Government Office Regional Boundaries. The scheme covers all English regions except for the North-East where special arrangements apply.
