I would ask for informed comments on the following problem that Newcastle University are placing on the whole of the academic community. To cut a very long story short, the mailbase.ac.uk mailing list service (of which this is one of two thousand lists with some 300 thousand subscribers I understand) was put out to tender, Newcastle didn't win it and now Newcastle say they have data protection problems in handing over the lists and their members to the new company. What do you know about the acquisition of existing business and the transfer of personal data. The intention is not carry out any other purpose for processing this data other than it is currently being used for.
