It will focus on literature, film, painting, sculpture and photography from Africa, the Caribbean and the British and American African-Diaspora. The conference will address the following issues, among others: -Defining the Black Gaze -African norms of cultural production: -Reception, mediation, dissemination and consumption of African-world Arts -Discourses of authenticity -Languages of identity -Identity and difference -Knowledge and community -Identity and Violence -Dissemination -Popular and local cultures -Literature/art and Power -Gender/Race/Class and African identity -The Black Gaze and its Future It will draw together a diverse group of international scholars in the field of African-world culture and arts and will also offer upcoming scholars and post-graduate students the opportunity to share their views with a larger public.
