I don't think I'm quite up to any feats of unmalingering at present, Geraldine. I was joking about almost sympathing with the Yong Peeps - from John Tranter's originally posting it looks like the Brisbane stunt was just that: a stunt. I do think there are elements in the articulation of literacy in our culture that are divisive - the use of literacy as the voice of manipulative, authoritarian power. And thereby the literate arts become blighted by that. I also think that there are strands in the poetry culture that are predatory and psychologically dangerous. In a market-place of desperation that speaks 'success' at any price. Which I rate too high for any art. This isn't a very satisfactory answer, I know, I'm not at my best at present. regards david ----- Original Message ----- From: Geraldine Monk <[log in to unmask]> To: david.bircumshaw <[log in to unmask]>; brit poets <[log in to unmask]> Sent: Sunday, October 22, 2000 9:19 AM Subject: Re: Yong Peeple Against Peotry > Well you try and unmalinger it David.
