Hello all.
i am trying to find text and background information regarding 'While London Sleeps' a Music Hall Song -c. 1900, though there maybe other versions, for the 'Finnegans Wake'Song Project. If anybody could help me it would be greatly appreciated. The only information i have at the moment is the following:
'While London Sleeps (Warner Bros., 1926) (69k jpeg) - Cast: Rin-Tin-Tin, Helene Costello, Walter Merrill, John Patrick, Otto Matiesen, George Kotsonaros, Dewitt Jennings, Carl Stockdale and Lew Bates. Directed by Howard Bretherton (also credited Walter Morosco). This is one bone that should have stayed buried for the dog star. Rinty was cast in a horror picture as a change of pace. He plays the canine companion of a murderer who stalks the darkened streets of London (Rinty the Ripper?). The critics
lambasted it. The Variety film review of December 22, 1926, said, "The picture is presented in all seriousness as a thrilling melodrama, exploiting the dog Rin-Tin-Tin., the only convincing actor in the outfit, and gets more closeups in an hour than Gloria Swanson ever enjoyed. The melodrama is laid on so thick it gets into unintended comedy."
Also, could anyone recommend a web-site, or E-Group, for Vaudeville and Music Hall Songs?
Thank you
