PRINCIPAL ARCHIVIST

Scale: SO2 £19,101 - £20,364 Ref. 01/1959

Are you the right person to lead Manchester's archives service into a new era? You will have full responsibility for managing the service, which is poised for a period of exciting development.

In the immediate future, you will be responsible for the introduction of the CALM 2000 database, including devising strategies for mounting finding aids on the Internet and formulating a retrospective conversion programme.

You will need to sustain and develop funding initiatives; the service is a partner to bids already submitted for A2A and to the HLF and NOF, and match funding is in place for a future HLF bid to mount all the parish catalogues on the Internet. In addition, you will foster partnership working, including closer initiatives with Greater Manchester County Record Office.

The archive service acts as the Diocesan Record Office for all the Diocese of Manchester, and you will need to implement a scheme for the second round of parish inspections under the Parochial Registers and Records Measure.

You must have a post-graduate Diploma or Degree in Archive Administration, which is recognised by the Society of Archivists and at least two years experience in a professional archives post.

Further details and an application form can be obtained from Administration Office, Central Library, St. Peter's Square, Manchester M2 5PD. Telephone 0161 234 1907/1930 Minicom 0161 234 1930
