Liz Rees TYNE & WEAR ARCHIVES SERVICE Gateshead Council Learning and Culture Ref: LCLA1 Libraries, Arts and Information Trainee Archivist (37 hours) Scale 3 (£12,192 - £13,044) Fixed term for 12 months The new post of Trainee Archivist is offered to applicants for post graduate archives courses wishing to broaden their experience of archive work. You will be a graduate with a good degree in an appropriate subject and you will also have a good all round standard of education. You must be able to demonstrate a firm commitment to further training as an archivist, as this post does not itself lead to any qualification. A prior offer of a place will be an advantage. You will work with the other employees of Tyne and Wear Archives Service to preserve archives and records and facilitate their use by the public, and at the same time gain experience of the full range of archive work in one of the largest local authority archives services in the country. The work will include gathering in archives from both official and private sources, assisting with cataloguing them, helping members of the public and assisting with promoting the archives service.
