More than ten years ago I received a trade catalogue from a shelving manufacturer. The page for archival storage showed a gentleman in a monastic habit turning the handle on some mobile shelving. I have wondered whether the company used the photograph because it happened to be their most recent installation, or that was the company's perception of what people thought archivists were like. By the way if people want jokes for the silly season How many archivists does it take to change a light bulb? None - the conservators won't let them touch it! Oh and a propos Sarah Flynn's comment, yes I probably do have more important things to do, but I should refer her to para. 27.3.9 of my personal mission statement, " to bring joy and enlightenment to fellow archives professionals wherever they may be - especially in the run up to Michaelmas" Also Sarah, a quick interrogation of the archives-nra website reveals the following: Number of messages posted by SJFlynn Sep.1999 - July 2000 115 Number of messages posted by RJChilds Jul 1998 - Aug 2000 116 Now what was that old saying about pots and kettles?? That's all for now folks Richard Childs West Sussex Record Office %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
