Institute of Ophthalmology and Department of Statistical Science
----------------------------------------------------------------

Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Medical Statistics.

The Institute of Ophthalmology and the Department of Statistical
Science, University College London, are seeking to recruit an
investigator in Medical Statistics with the aim, in the long term,
that the appointee might direct a Division of Medical Statistics
in the Institute. The Institute of Ophthalmology received a 5*
rating in the last RAE and has a distinguished record of achievement
and scholarship. Researchers will benefit from an extremely
stimulating environment for clinical and academic research. An
appointment will be made at Senior Lecturer or Lecturer level
epending on experience and track record ie. from £32,510 to
£36,740 basic salary or £17,555 to £30,967 basic salary plus
London Allowance of £2,134. Appointment at Lecturer level will
be made for five years in the first instance with a review after
three years. At Senior Lecturer level, appointment will be made
on an open contract.

Applicants will be highly motivated researchers who have a record
of statistical research publications in recognised journals and
experience in or an aptitude for collaborative research. The
appointee will spend at least 50% of his/her time engaged in
collaborative research at the Institute and in developing a
personal research programme related to the development of
statistical methodology. The expectation is that the appointee’s
personal research programme should partially link to the needs of
the clinical, epidemiological and biological studies within the
Institute. The appointee will spend a proportion of time at the
Department of Statistical Science, making a contribution to the
teaching and research activities of that department.

Preliminary enquiries should be made to Professor Vern Farewell,
Professor of Medical Statistics in the Department of Statistical
Science (tel. 020 7679 1865, fax 020 7813 2801, email
[log in to unmask]) or the Director of the Institute of
Ophthalmology, Professor Adam Sillito ([log in to unmask];
tel 020 7608 6805). Formal applications should include a full
CV, research proposal and the names of three referees and should
be sent to Professor Sillito at the Institute of Ophthalmology,
Bath Street, London EC1V 9EL.

It is hoped that an appointment can be made by the end of February
2001.
