Please bring the following notice to the attention of any potentially interested parties. YOUNG STATISTICIANS' MEETING 2001 9TH-10TH APRIL 2001 UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL The Young Statisticians' Meeting is an annual day-long event that will next be held at the University of Liverpool between 9th and 10th April 2001. In previous years the meeting has attracted in the region of 120 participants. The typical YSM participant is either nearing the completion of his/her PhD., or is within the first 5 years of a statistical career, in an academic, a business or an industrial environment. The purpose of the meeting is to provide a forum for participants to exchange research ideas both formally through oral and poster presentations, and informally over lunch, dinner and the evening reception. In particular, the meeting is intended to foster greater interaction between statisticians working in contrasting environments. The conference is arranged as a series of plenary and parallel sessions. To begin the conference, there will be a plenary lecture given by Professor Deborah Ashby. There will also be a wine-reception and poster session on the evening of 9th April, where delegates will have the opportunity to meet some of the conference sponsors. The themes of individual sessions are currently being formalised; as a guide, previous meetings have included sessions on environmental statistics, medical and pharmaceutical statistics, theoretical statistics, statistical computation, engineering statistics and quality control, and financial stochastic modelling, amongst others. The conference will be held in Derby and Rathbone Hall, which is one of the University of Liverpool residences in the Greenbank complex, in Mossley Hill, one of the popular suburbs of the City of Liverpool. The residences are located in the spacious parkland of Greenbank House which dates partly from the eighteenth century. Registration will start at 11:30am on Monday 9th April and the conference will close at midday on Tuesday 10th April. The cost of the meeting is £50. This includes lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, wine reception, breakfast, morning coffee, accommodation for the night of 9th April and the conference registration fee. There will be a further announcement to the list very soon, which will provide details of on-line registration facilities, and instructions for abstract submissions. In the meantime, any queries may be directed to the chair of the organising committee, Helen Clough at the address below. The closing date for registrations will be February 9th 2001.
