THE OPEN UNIVERSITY

TWO LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER POSTS IN STATISTICS

We wish to attract two productive and enthusiastic academics to enhance our
research and extend our teaching provision. Your background may be academic,
research, commercial or industrial; you may have substantial relevant
professional experience.

This is an exciting opportunity to participate in research and global
distance education in an institution committed to quality and growth.

We offer you:

* the chance to join a large and ambitious Department of Statistics
* strong encouragement and funding opportunities for your research
* good flexible study leave provision
* the opportunity to innovate in teaching at all levels
* extensive technological resources
* the opportunity to collaborate extensively across disciplines

Both posts will provide extensive opportunities for you to pursue your
research interests in a supportive and research-active Department. If you
are finishing your PhD in Statistics, we would give you time to complete
your thesis.

For one of the posts, the major part of the work will be to provide an
internal statistical consultancy service to the Open University's research
community. The University currently has over 500 research-active staff,
about 200 full-time research students at its base in Milton Keynes, and a
further 500 part-time research students. The consultancy service is well
established, but the post will provide opportunities to develop it further.
You will have a good record in research, teaching and/or statistical
consultancy, or a clear potential for developing these.

The main teaching duties of the other post will involve preparing teaching
materials for undergraduate courses, for use by students and tutors based
nationwide and across Western Europe. You will have a good record in
research and teaching, or a clear potential for developing these.

The appointments will be made on the Academic salary scales
GBP18,731-GBP23,256 or GBP24,227-GBP30,967p.a according to academic
attainment and experience. For a candidate with suitable abilities and
experience, an appointment on the Academic salary scale GBP32,510-GBP36,740
p.a. will be considered. These are full-time permanent posts which will be
based in Milton Keynes.
