POSITIONS AVAILABLE Centre for Statistics in Medicine Institute of Health Sciences University of Oxford POST ONE: RESEARCH FELLOW IN SYSTEMATIC REVIEWS SALARY SCALE: Research Grade 2 £23,256 - £30,967 A unique opportunity exists for a three year research fellowship in the application and development of systematic reviews within healthcare. Whilst based within an academic department the position is equally divided between undertaking systematic reviews for a major pharmaceutical company, and undertaking new methodological work relating to the systematic review process. The successful applicant is likely to be an experienced health service researcher with postgraduate qualifications (MSc or higher) in medical statistics, epidemiology or another evaluative branch of health sciences research. The applicant will have excellent critical review and quantitative skills and experience of the systematic review process. In addition, the successful applicant will have an interest in methodological research related to systematic reviews, preferably backed up by a publication/presentation record. We are looking for someone who is committed and able to produce consistently high quality work within deadlines. Personal qualities should include well-developed organisational abilities and good communication skills, both oral and written. POST TWO: RESEARCH FELLOW IN MEDICAL STATISTICS SALARY SCALE: Research Grade 1(A) currently £16,775 - £25,213 A two-year post is available for a medical statistician to work on an MRC funded project addressing methodological issues in meta-analysis of RCTs with continuous outcome data. The work will include empirical research based on systematic reviews in the Cochrane Library, methodological research relating to statistical methods and collaborative research in conjunction with researchers working on systematic reviews, with the aim of developing relevant practical guidelines for the analysis, interpretation and presentation of systematic reviews in these areas. Applicants should have a post-graduate qualification in statistics with experience working in a medical area. Previous methodological work and experience in meta-analysis are desirable.
