6th EDINBURGH CLINICAL TRIAL MANAGEMENT COURSE

7th- 9th February 2001
Edinburgh

The course will chiefly focus on the efficient
management of randomised controlled clinical trials,
but will also cover some aspects of their design. The
course is a mixture of lectures and workshops and its
practical approach will take you step by step from
getting started through all the stages of a well-run
trial. You will learn how to get from idea to trial,
how to navigate the UK ethical review system and how
to build a multi-disciplinary team. You will hear
about methods of randomisation, computer programming
for clinical trials and how to design trial materials
that work. The course will also cover funding issues
and Data Monitoring. Workshops will help you to get
started, explore randomisation methods, establish and
maintain good data management procedures and keep the
trial going. There will also be an opportunity for
you to arrange individual consultations with members
of the course faculty if there is a particular topic
you would like to discuss in more detail. The course
is recognised by the UK Medical Research Council.

The course organising committee includes members of
the Neurosciences Trials Unit, University of
Edinburgh, and the trial managers of the Magpie and
ORACLE Trials. The Neurosciences Trials Unit has co-
ordinated a number of large, randomised, multi-centre
clinical trials, and together with invited outside
speakers, members of the unit will contribute to the
programme of lectures and workshops.
