GUS Home Shopping is looking to recruit a Statistical Modeller to work within the Statistical Modelling Team at their Manchester offices.

THE COMPANY
GUS Home Shopping is Britain's largest home shopping company and trades under catalogue names such as Great Universal, Kays, Marshall Ward and Choice.  Based at offices in Manchester, the Marketing Database function is currently in the process of developing leading-edge systems and software to drive its marketing programme further forward.

STATISTICAL MODELLING TEAM
The position is working as a member of the Statistical Modelling Team within the Marketing Database function, with specific focus on Customer Recruitment.  The Statistical Modelling Team's Mission Statement is "To establish, and be recognised as, a centre of excellence in the development and deployment of commercially pragmatic data modelling solutions in support of all marketing activity group-wide, with the objective of maximising the benefit of every customer alliance."

THE ROLE
To contribute to the successful delivery of the Statistical Modelling Team's 'Mission Statement'.  To be achieved primarily through the development, deployment and monitoring of statistical targeting models used in the execution of a wide variety of marketing recruitment campaigns. The budget for this activity currently exceeds £30m and the models used to direct this spend are both numerous and varied, e.g. :-

- Direct Mail list selection models (using Electoral Roll, Lifestyle & Census data)
- Sales Force geographical targeting models
- Contact History suppression models (for outbound and inbound suppressions)

Key responsibilities will be:
· To develop/implement new models and monitor the performance of existing models on an ongoing basis.
· To effectively communicate at the appropriate level, the pertinent technical features and commercial benefits associated with all models developed
· To ensure all models are compliant with data protection and industry guidelines
· To contribute towards the development of new methods and continuously improve Customer Relationship Management through innovative thinking
· To provide additional modelling and analysis support across all functional areas, as required
· To take pride in the quality of all work undertaken, by adopting an honest, diligent and conscientious approach at all times.

The successful candidate should possess a good first degree in a highly numerate subject.  He/She will be experienced in the use of  statistical analysis and database query packages (ideally SAS and SQL), and be fully conversant with Microsoft Office products. Relevant commercial experience will be an advantageous.
