Department Methodology and Statistics
Faculty of Health Sciences, Maastricht University, the Netherlands

The Department Methodology and Statistics invites applications for a
position of

Research assistant

to work on a Ph.D. degree in Psychometrics and Applied Statistics. The
appointment will be
for four years, with a review after one year.

The Project:
The candidate will participate in the research project: “Optimal Test
and Sampling Designs for
Polytome Latent Variable Models”. In the Social Sciences a broad variety
of latent variable
(IRT) models can be used to analyse test and survey data. Since
efficient estimation of the
parameters can usually only be done with very large samples, time,
effort and money can be
saved by an adequate selection of the test and sampling design. The goal
of this project is to
find general rules for the selection of these optimal designs which can
be used in practice by
test developers. During the project the candidate will have the
opportunity to attend advanced
courses in psychometrics, statistical methods and optimal design theory.
