Workshop on Statistical Techniques in Data Mining with Applications (StatDM2001) (http://web.hku.hk/~plhyu/statdm2001/index.htm ) Monday, April 16, 2001, Kowloon, Hong Kong. in conjunction with: The Fifth Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD2001) (April 16-19, 2001) First Announcement and Call for Papers This workshop aims to bring together statisticians and practitioners in data mining to promote a more active interaction among disciplines. It allows for a comprehensive presentation of various relevant topics, and introduces recent statistical applications in data mining. Bring different research communities together and providing a better understanding of the statistical underpinnings for other disciplines are two key ingredients to the quest for better ways of solving various data mining problems. The workshop will serve as a forum where the statistical methods used in data mining are investigated. We believe more research and application activities could then be stimulated. The workshop will address topics such as: - Data Visualization - Regression and Classification Techniques - Estimation and Prediction Techniques - Mining Time Series Data - Mining Spatial Data - Application domains: e.g. banking, marketing, telecommunication Submissions on the above and related topics of statistical data mining are invited. Case studies and industrial experience from the development and deployment of statistical data mining techniques/products are particularly welcome. Submission Guidelines: Submission is by extended abstract (up to 2 pages including tables and figures) in Postscript, PDF or Microsoft Word format. Please include a cover page containing the title, authors' names and email addresses and up to 5 relevant keywords.
