Statistical Engineering at Cosworth Racing. As a world leader in race engine design and manufacturing with experience spanning over four decades, Cosworth Racing has established an enviable reputation for the design and precision engineering of high-performance race, rally and road car engines, and currently supplies the engines for the Jaguar Formula 1 car. Cosworth Racing is part of the Ford Motor Company, and automotive engineering in Ford today relies heavily on the application of statistical science through, for example:- * appreciating the omnipresence of variability and its effects on engineering design * use of basic statistical concepts (EDA, SPC, statistical inference and so-on) in making sense of data * application of experimental design to gain insights into engineering designs as a function of the design parameters, transmitted variation, and environmental variables * use of multiple regression for empirical understanding of engineering designs and manufacturing processes * application of reliability disciplines (e.g.Weibull analysis, degradation analysis) Racing engines, which perform at or near their limit for most of their useful life, present particular problems from the standpoint of engineering quality, and with this in mind, Cosworth Racing are looking to hire a first class engineering statistician to be part of the engineering team at Northampton. The role of the engineering statistician in Cosworth Racing will be to provide, first and foremost, a consulting role to the engineering and manufacturing teams in the pro-active use of statistical methods in developing racing engines with the aim of producing engines having performance and reliability characteristics which are class leading or amongst the best. If you are interested in this challenging opportunity, please in the first instance register your interest by sending an e-mail to Dr. Tim Davis ([log in to unmask]), Quality Director, Ford Motor Company.
