"Bayesian Designs and Limiting Dilution Assays"

             Professor John Matthews

        University of Newcastle upon Tyne

Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) have a long
history of application in biology, with
widespread use in immunology being a recent
example. LDAs will be introduced and the problem
of producing optimal designs for this class of
assays will be discussed. As with most non-linear
design problems, the dependence of the information
matrix on unknown parameters means that a Bayesian
approach is natural. The fact that LDAs depend on a
single parameter means that they are a useful vehicle
for exploring some practical issues which have more
implications for Bayesian design more generally.

All welcome!!
