SEMINAR TUESDAY 24TH OCTOBER:

Prof. Vern Farewell, Department of Statistical Science, University College London.

Title: Monitoring of Surgical Outcomes: An Application of Cumulative Sum Procedures

ABSTRACT:

Process monitoring has been extensively studied in the industrial
context and a widely used tool is the cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart.
The application of this methodology to the monitoring of binary
surgical outcomes will be discussed. Suggestions will be made for the
extension of this methodology to deal with bivariate outcome data and
the need to adjust for the case mix in the monitoring of individual
surgeons.
