Hello, I wonder if other list members can help me. I'm trying to find out what policies other institutions have on the announcement of module (course) and award (qualification) results. I'm keen to find out if results are generally first announced to the world (eg pass lists put up on notice boards) or privately to the student (eg by letter). To help me get a feel for which method is most common, it would be very helpful if you could you answer the following questions for both individual modules and overall awards. 1. Are results announced publicly, or to students individually? Pass lists showing whether students can proceed to the next year of study (in the case of 1st & 2nd years) and the final degree classifications are posted on our results noticeboard usually within 24 hours of the meeting of the Board of Examiners. However we only put up the results for successful students. Other students receive notification by letter. A breakdown of the marks awarded for courses are available to students via a web page. Students can only gain access to their own results and the page is password protected. Students are also required to give their date of birth as another security check. 2. If results are announced publicly, are students informed before the public announcement? No. 3. Do any institutions put results up on their web pages? see 1 above. We don't put up the pass lists, only the results for individual students. 4. If so, are these accessible to just the student concerned or are they public? Password protected for an individual student. see 1 above. 5. What is the name of your institution? The University of Essex If you e-mail me your responses, I'll summarise them and post to admin-student. Many thanks in advance for your help!
