On the subject of the person who enquired about the anti-sm antibodies. I
think I would come down on the side of Raymond Wulkan. The world is a very
small place to anyone with a modem, some time and a little common sense. I
have full sympathy with clinicians who are facing difficult questions from
well-informed patients but I don't think the situation is going to get
easier.

I sent the lady two websites without giving her a personal opinion on
symptoms, they were OMIM and the American Autoimmune Related Diseases
Association both of which had useful links. I felt that action was
appropriate in the circumstances. She can then search herself and perhaps
her GP will be grateful for the information passed back. She was smart and
motivated enough to find the ACB mailbase so more power to her elbow.
