We have looked at a number of automated methods for testosterone and none of
them are able to reach down to the sensitivity required for females and
pre-adolescent males or females. We still maintain an RIA to detect low end
testosterone values on these patients. Appropriate precision and linearity
studies will show that the automated immunoassay systems can not
reproducibly determine low testosterone results.
