Hello Trevor

Try Specimen Cooler Tray from Chemlab Scientific, Construction House, Grenfell Ave, Hornchurch. Our current model cost L600 in 1997. It may be their paediatric sized version - the dimensions of the chilled tray are 75 x40cm. Fits on benchtop, base is chilled but open above for easy access. Use with metal racks.

We've used one for years for "current" samples. They are very robust - only problem we have had was with urates, as they are colder than a fridge & cause precipitation.

Subject: Benchtop refridgeration trays.

Dear colleagues,

We are concerned about the rate at which some samples deteriorate while
undergoing/waiting for analysis. At present, the samples just sit on
the benchtop in racks with a measurable rate of deterioration in some
analytes. We wondered about using refridgerated trays, such as used in
some food displays as a possible means of cooling samples. The problem
with standard fridges being that they spend more time with their doors
open than closed as sample movement in and out of the racks is frequent,
and the temperature is consquently not very low. They are also
inconvenient so would tend not to be used when there is a convenient
bench top handy ! Is anyone using such trays, or know where we could
obtain some ?
