WORKSHOP:  REMAINING PLACES

Effective Postgraduate Supervision
Radcliffe House, Warwick University
28/29 September 2000

This long-established and highly regarded workshop is aimed at both new and
experienced supervisors in all subject areas and is designed to allow them to
identify and share best practice in the field of research supervision. It will
cover the main stages of the research process and will focus on common problems
using case studies from a range of disciplines. There will also be a session
in which participants will be able to raise specific issues relevant to their
own situations, linked to an action planning session that will provide them
with an opportunity to reflect on how experience gained on the workshop can be
applied within their own institutions.

More than 900 new and experienced supervisors from a range of disciplines have
attended our national programme of workshops over the past six years. The
course tutors have extensive and continuing experience of postgraduate research
supervision and administration.

Our workshops use a combination of presentations and syndicate group work,
based on case studies from several universities. The provisional topic areas
for the workshop include:

*	recruitment, selection and induction;
*	progress monitoring and upgrading procedures;
*	the supervisor/student relationship;
*	developing writing, presentation and communication skills;
*	delegates' choice;
*	individual action planning.

Another important element of the workshop is the shared experience of the
participants themselves; and we encourage participants to raise specific issues
facing them in their own institutions so that we can provide opportunities to
address them during the workshop.

The cost, to include en suite accommodation and all meals: ?495.00
